A civil partnership dissolution is the legal process of bringing a civil partnership to an end. It is similar to divorce, but specifically for couples in a civil partnership. To apply for a dissolution, you must have been in the partnership for at least one year.
Since the introduction of “no-fault” divorce and dissolution laws, you no longer need to prove reasons such as adultery or unreasonable behaviour. Instead, you simply need to make a statement that your relationship has broken down irretrievably. This makes the process more straightforward and often less stressful.
Throughout this process, important issues such as finances, property, and arrangements for children may also need to be resolved.
