The Mendip Society

Caring for the Mendip Hills

ABOUT

The Mendip Society

The Mendip Society welcomes, local, national and international members who share a passion for the unique Mendip flora, fauna, geology and history. They were the first organisation to propose that the hills should become an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), now known as a National Landscape. The society continues to campaign for the existing National Landscape area to be extended to cover the remainder
of Mendip.

Alongside this, the society runs two nature reserves, monitors and comments on planning applications that it feels might have an impact on the future of the area, and works to educate and inform the public, especially young people, about everything that makes Mendip such a special place. They also run a small grants scheme, through which activities that are compatible with the society’s aims can be financially supported
