ABOUT

Somerset Prostate Support Association (SPSA)

The Somerset Prostate Support Association (SPSA) is a volunteer-led charity dedicated to supporting men diagnosed with prostate cancer and raising awareness of the disease across Somerset. The organisation provides guidance, information, and community support for individuals and families navigating the challenges of prostate cancer.

SPSA works closely with local healthcare providers, includingMusgrove Park Hospital in TauntonandYeovil Hospital. The charity is run entirely by volunteers, many of whom have personal experience with prostate cancer, bringing valuable understanding and empathy to the support they offer.

SPSA provides practical support and information for men affected by prostate cancer and their families. In addition to offering community-based support, the charity works to raise awareness of prostate cancer and encourages men to seek advice and testing when needed.

One of the charity’s key initiatives is organisingfree prostate cancer testing eventsacross the county. With the help of sponsorship and donations, these discreet testing opportunities help men access early detection, which can be critical in improving outcomes and saving lives.

  • 2024 - 5 events with 1093 men tested.
  • 2025 - 7 events with 1524 men tested.
  • 2026 - 4 events so far with 945 men tested. 5 more scheduled.
